Each of our four branch libraries host a Genealogy and Local History Room. Click on the links below for more information about hours, services and materials.

Below is a list of useful websites and databases for use in researching your family tree.

Access Genealogy – contains a number of genealogy resources including Native American.

AfriGeneas – African Ancestored genealogy.

Ancestry Library Edition – (This database is not available outside of the library.) This collection has approximately 4,000 databases including key collections such as:

  • U.S. Federal Census images and indexes from 1790 to 1930
  • Map Center containing more than 1,000 historical maps
  • American Genealogical Biographical Index (over 200 volumes)
  • Daughters of the American Revolution Lineage (over 150 volumes)
  • The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England, 1620-1630
  • Social Security Death Index (updated monthly)

  • Census Online – The web’s largest directory of links to online census transcriptions!
  • Cyndi’s List – a list of 270 + genealogy links on the Internet.
  • Digital Library of Georgia – Georgia’s history and culture found in digitized books, manuscripts, photographs, government documents, newspapers, maps, audio, video, and other resources.
  • FamilySearch – free family history, family tree, and genealogy records and resources from around the world provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
  • GeorgiaInfo – Information about Georgia history and government as well as county information.
  • Georgia Stories – For anyone interested in Georgia history, the site is coordinated with the excellent series Georgia Stories produced by Georgia Public Broadcasting Education
  • Heritage Quest – includes the complete set of U.S. Federal Census images from 1790-1930, information on places and people described in over 26,000 local and family histories, search PERSI which indexes over 2.1 million genealogy and local history articles, search selected records from the Revolutionary War Era Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Application files, search for individuals in Freedman’s Bank (1865-1874) founded to serve African Americans, and search the memorials, petitions, and private relief actions of the U.S. Congress in the U.S. Serial Set.
  • Immigration History – Ellis Island records
  • New Georgia Encyclopedia – an authoritative source on the people, places, events, and institutions of Georgia.
  • Vanishing Georgia – comprises nearly 18,000 photographs. Ranging from daguerreotypes to Kodachrome prints, the images span over 100 years of Georgia history
